Expected to be announced at the 2019 CES, Nikon did not show their hand for the rumored upcoming flagship DSLR. According to reputable sources, the new camera will boast a few upgrades that photographers who demand the best have been asking for. Here is a list of possible specs:

  • 24 MP BIS CMOS Sensor
  • 4k UHD Video @ 24,25,30,50,60 FPS
  • Slow Motion video capture up to 120 FPS
  • 20 FPS Continuous Drive
  • Silent Electronic Shutter
  • Dual XQD Card slots
  • On sensor Phase Detect AF System
  • N-log 10 bit HDMI Out
  • 3.5 Fixed touchscreen
  • Optical Pentaprism
  • USB 3.1 Wi-Fi and Bluetooth
  • Same body as the Nikon D5

These are just speculations based on current rumors swirling about and just like any rumors, they may or may not be true. I am particularly excited, if it is true, about he Wi-Fi aspect. This is something that photographers have been asking to be included with the higher pro bodies for some time. It is already integrated into the consumer bodies so it would be about time to add this to their flagship. This would eliminate an additional accessory needed the WT-6A, and the price tag, which is currently needed with the D5. In my humble opinion, this camera would have the perfect compliment of megapixels to form and function for style of photography The other intriguing aspect is the silent shutter. This would be a welcome addition for wedding photographers and people who want to shoot a shy wildlife subjects, Hopefully, in early 2019 we will have our answer.
